More than likely if you touch the heatsink and it is not hot, than the thermal connection between the cpu and cooler is not working properly. Try remounting the cooler, with new thermal paste.

Good advice. I've had to do that in the past.


To the OP, you said you got the cpu temps back to normal but your video card is overheating? Does the fan spin?

The 8800GT is a heat producer. I would add a couple 120mm fans on your case (one for intake and one for exhaust). Don't run your system for too long with the case open. You F* up airflow in your system.
